Longshan preschool is one of the projects funded and managed by H2H (Heart to Heart, Hand to Hand), a project initiated by Nokia China in 2008 to promote the importance of early childhood education in rural remote counties in China.  As children in rural areas are accustomed to the freedom of open fields, the preschool provides a different setting with enclosed and protected courtyards and classrooms shared with others, to diversify their early childhood experience.  The continuous zigzag roofs are abstracted from the profile of clusters of rural buildings.  Standard sloping roofs are joined to surround the playground with a distinguished and playful skyline, forming the identity of the preschool’s environment.  All classrooms are connected directly to the playground, to maintain the intimate relationship between indoor and outdoor activities.  The shared courtyard can be flexibly divided into different uses based on age or circumstance, and children can easily observe others whether indoor or outdoor.  The school provides an early experience of a collective society.  After 4 years of design, land negotiation and construction, it officially opened in July, 2012.  Built area is 978 m2 on a 4330 m2 site, consisting of 4 classrooms, 160 kids, and 12 faculties.

这是一个公益性质的项目,以国际基金会和当地政府共同出资建园的方式,回应内地幼儿教育普及性缺失的问题。作为设计方,主要思考在乡镇田野生活的幼儿们,将需要一个怎么样的集体环境。与城市忙碌的小家庭不同,他们并不缺少看管小孩的家人,上幼儿园的意义在于体验集体生活的经历。相对于日常所见开阔的田野,幼儿园里有温暖围合的院子,四周是连续起伏、高低错落的屋顶,用一个平常的建筑元素,以不平常的连接方式形成趣味。幼儿成长中与土地的亲密关系应该得到保持,从所有课室可以都可以直接踏出院子。在院子中,不同年龄的幼儿既有相对独立的游戏区域,又能轻易的观察到其他年龄幼儿的活动,幼儿园生活是集体社会关系认知的课堂。幼儿园在2012年7月正式成立,建成建筑面积为978平方米,占地6.5亩,有四个全日制教学班,160位在园幼儿,12名教职工。
